1.
Hamilton 04:43
I am a tree Among many others Sitting under canopies of limbs We watch the elders We watch the elders I am a tree Among many others Overnight they wither The end comes years later When a child sits on a spiral grave I wish upon fixed eyes so I can see the dirt And only the dirt, in which my feet we buried And only the dirt, in which my kin we merry. The saw is close But it has been for years The pain doesn't scare me Instead the wait does
2.
There is debris on the wall And most certainly in the sky But we cannot Keep the lids closed On the young So it is best to sleep Through the night And the storm When we wake In the morning To find the bare roots Torn from the grass Still bedewed From the translucent grains That will soak Into the ground
3.
A melting sheet of mercury From blue to grey We watch, we watch The sun and I Where could they be Wings and bread A clear bed of air We watch From blue to black We admire, we admire The sea and I Oh, my crew is dead Their heavy souls On a descent To the cold In the deep of the sea Who will claim my body I wonder, The air or the sea
4.
Dover 06:22
They have taken me Stripped my passion To the woods I go To my northern solace
5.
Bethel 08:35
6.
The soothsayer said That I would be dead By twenty And all of my friends would be gone As well as my family We parted by autumn Beside a milky horizon My eyes, my eyes looking down On a peach, white sun It's a beautiful dusk It's full of lively time
7.
Fire, fire, this fire My dirty jacket Flushing all else out Every life, every strife Can you hear the notes Being sung from the pavement Glowing down below, Just beneath me Frames torn by grand flames Silk ashes rising to beclouded safety Can you hear the notes Being sung from the pavement And in an instant Thereʼs calm and cool Breezes breathing Morning on my skin
8.
Brewster 05:11
There’s a bulb just ahead Beyond the road climbs so high As cool as dark, an asphalt mountain We need to cross We need to cross Machines, they taunt And dance in the sky Knuckles embraced, the wind keeps creeping Seeping through the moist skin By now, we’re one My cold bones and your silky palms Machines, they taunt And dance in the sky
9.
So Iʼll tell them Be back briefly Drowned in dreams, My fingers wrapped tightly Around each grip To the mountains And beyond, Iʼll ride my ship. Kissing coral clouds Up on the peaks Seeing sights above men that no man should see. There is no telling How long I Will be in the mountains I have no ties to be cut No creations to be burned Iʼve accepted my past And the waste that Iʼve heard I have no ties to be cut No creations to be burned Iʼve accepted my life Separation is what I yearn

about

“Quinn’s talent and sounds are haunting. Ripostes seems to have had a ripple effect all over the globe through blogs and independent music websites... This album is a true work of art.” — In Your Speakers

With lush soundscapes and wistful melodies, GPSYMTH (gypsy-moth) represents a radical departure for 20-year-old Peter Quinn. A record of quiet exuberance, his recently remastered Ripostes iis a narrative of traveling, of dreams, and of the urgency to follow paths through the woods before they vanish into the dark.

Initially self-produced and self-released in early 2012, Ripostes quickly caught the attention of the online music community via word-of-mouth on late-night message boards. A few weeks following its release, Quinn wrote our label an unassuming note to introduce his record, and needless to say we fell head-over-heals in love with it. Working closely with Quinn, himself a production autodidact, Stars & Letters collaborated to produce a remixed, remastered, more vibrant version of Quinn's phenomenal debut record.
